Follow or Die!

                                                                                  By Michael Guido,  The Sower
                                                                                           Read Mark 8:34-36

NOTE: THERE ARE SEVERAL BRIEF DEVOTIONALS PRESENTED HERE.

 Bruce, the Scottish king, when dying, asked his most trusted officer to carry his heart to the Holy Land for burial.

Douglas, the king’s trusted officer, enclosed the heart in a golden case, and with his mighty men went out on their mission to carry out the king’s last wishes.

But on the way, a big band of brutal warriors hemmed them in. To encourage himself for victory, he threw the king’s heart toward the Holy Land and shouted loudly, “Forward! Douglas will follow you or die!”

There’s a battle to be fought, and our Lord’s heart is out before us. Let’s follow the leading of His heart, or die!

Prayer: Father, make us more sensitive and responsive to the prompting of Thy Spirit and the persuasion of Thy Scripture as Thou dost summon us to follow Thee in all things: through our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen.

SCORING OR SCRAPPING
Read Matthew 6:24

Dr. Michael Guido, The Sower

A professional hockey star got into a lot of fights during games. It hurt his friends and his family.

One day his little girl asked, “Daddy, how can you score a goal when you’re always in the penalty box?”

Good question, isn’t it?

You can’t be self-controlled and self-indulgent at the same minute, or be grateful or gripey at the same time, or be thankful and touchy at the same instant, or be prayerful and pessimistic at the same period, or score and scrap at the same moment.

And you can’t “serve God and mammon.”

You must decide. Which will it be–scoring or scrapping, God or the devil?

Prayer: Inspire us, Lord Jesus, to look to Thee, and not to any Christian or church. Keep our eyes from straying and our feet from stumbling. Constrain us to get our cue of belief and behavior from Thee. Help us to serve only Thee: in Thy dear name. Amen.

                                                                         LOST FAITH
                                                               Read Romans 10:17

A little boy went to Sunday school for the first time and was given a card that read, “Have faith in God.”

Riding home on a bus he stuck his hand out of the window and his card was blown away. “Stop the bus,” he cried, “I’ve lost my faith in God!”

We need to stop everything and get back our faith.

D. L. Moody said, “I prayed for faith, but it didn’t come. One day I saw the Bible verse that says, ‘Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God.’ I opened the Bible and started reading it and my faith has been growing ever since.”

Has yours?

Prayer: Enlarge our faith, heavenly Father, and keep it growing. Guide us by Thy divine counsel; give us desires which Thou dost delight to satisfy; and establish within us the loyalty that cannot be shaken: in the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Amen.

                                                                      THE CONNECTION
                                                                     Read Isaiah 53:5-6

An engineer went to the front during the war to repair the communications line. The message it carried meant life to thousands of men and women.

When he arrived and found the break, he had nothing with which to repair it.

Taking hold of one end of the broken cable with his right hand and the other end with his left hand, he made the connection.

An artist caught the picture and named it “Through.”

There was a breach between God and man. But the Lord Jesus, with His arms outstretched on the cross, redeemed us.

Trust Him! Then you’ll be connected to the Lord and you’ll enjoy His fellowship.

Prayer: Father, grant unto us stout hearts, true faith to always trust in Thy love, live in Thy presence, and delight in Thy word. Give us grace sufficient for our wills: through Christ. Amen.

Myself

I have a friend of long years in Tennessee.  He was teaching a Bible class one day and he asked his class what is the first thing they wanted to see in Heaven?  One said, “Jesus.”  Good answer.  Another said, “God, the Father.”  Also a good answer.  Another said, “The Apostle Paul.”  Others named a relative they wanted to see in Heaven.

This friend, the Bible teacher,  said all of the answers given were good–perhaps some better than others, but all good.  He then shared  what or whom he wanted to see first in Heaven.

1. Jesus?  No.

2. God, the Father? No.

3.  The Apostle Paul?  No.

The first person I want to see in Heaven is…MYSELF!

Now he was not detracting from all the other answers…rather he was declaring that it such a rare thing for a man to make it to Heaven that he wanted to make sure he was there.   The Bible says, “”Strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.”  –Matthew 7:14

Let me ask you this important question:  Do you know for sure if you died tonight that you would go to Heaven?  You can know the anwer to this question.  You should know this answer.    The Scripture asks another question related to this subject.  “For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?” –Mark 8:36

If you find yourself asking the question, “How can I know for sure?”  Then consider what the Apostle Paul said.  He was addressing a worldly church congregation as his immediate audience, but also speaking to the greater audience that includes us.

1 Corinthians 15

 1Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand;

 2By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.

 3For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;

 4And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

1 Corinthians 15:1-4

 1Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand;

 2By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.

 3For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;

 4And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

In these short verses the Apostle Paul lets us know what the Gospel is and why it is important.  Are you saved?  Do you have assurance Heave is ultimately your home?  Read and believe the teaching that Paul is communicating in these Scriptures.   Next, listen to what Paul teaches in Romans 10.

Romans 10:1-17

 1Brethren, my heart’s desire and prayer to God for Israel is, that they might be saved.

 2For I bear them record that they have a zeal of God, but not according to knowledge.

 3For they being ignorant of God’s righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God.

 4For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth.

 5For Moses describeth the righteousness which is of the law, That the man which doeth those things shall live by them.

 6But the righteousness which is of faith speaketh on this wise, Say not in thine heart, Who shall ascend into heaven? (that is, to bring Christ down from above:)

 7Or, Who shall descend into the deep? (that is, to bring up Christ again from the dead.)

 8But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach;

 9That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

 10For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

 11For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.

 12For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him.

 13For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

 14How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?

 15And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!

 16But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Esaias saith, Lord, who hath believed our report?

 17So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

Believe the Bible…Believe that Jesus died for your sins…believe he was buried and then three days later resurrected from the dead.  Believe He is alive today at the right hand of His Father–in Heaven.  He wants you to be saved.

Trust Him today.  Call upon Him in faith.    I hope you will write me and share your testimony with me.  I want to rejoice with you.   I promise to write you back with an encouraging word.    Email me: editor@salvationlinks.com
