Adam’s Sin

wages of sin 4A Devotion by Ron English

Our Text Poster addresses one of the oldest challenges man faces on this earth. Jesus spoke to Adam about his sin before he committed it. Adam was a smart man for he named all of the animals God brought before him. But I am not sure he had a viable concept of what he was getting himself into when he followed his wife in her sin. I know why he did it, but not sure he had a feel for how far-reaching his sin would take the human race and the ultimate cost of that sin. Sin marred the garden, troubled Adam from that day forward and has troubled his kin until this day. Does anyone doubt that sin pays wages? Not cash wages but troubled wages. Every human that has been born into this world has been tagged with Adam’s sin. I hear it said every now and then that we are made in the image of God. I don’t believe that. We are made in the image of Adam. We are his kin. Adam was made in the image of God. I heard Adrian Rogers say yesterday (in a recording) the same thing. He asked his congregation to look around– do you think this crowd looks like God? God created the heavens and the earth. He hung the stars and the sun and the moon. He created a beautiful earth and he created Adam and took a rib from his side and made him a beautiful helpmeet. Adam and Eve spoiled the picture perfect setting of heaven on earth. Every war, every crime, every illness, every trouble man faces all can be traced back to that Garden scene of the tragedy of Adam’s sin. I saw 60 Minutes yesterday and the story segment of the Sudan and those poor, poor people who have no idea where their next meal will come. The USA is sending relief nearly every day, but it is so little for so many. I saw that large cargo jet come in at 195 miles an hour high in the sky and dump tons of food that splattered on the ground. More by parachutes. Those poor people scrambling for that precious food. Their plight can be traced back to Adam in the Garden. I don’t think Adam could see that in his wake. But it is there. Our Text Poster says there is a wage connected to what he did. “The wages of sin is death…” I saw a poster yesterday where an atheist asked a Christian why his God didn’t show himself so all could see Him. The Christian said, “He did. And they crucified Him.” Don’t you think if God with His Omniscience and Omnipotence could have come up with a better plan to redeem sinful man He would have done so? There was no human ever to be born that qualified to pay the redemption price. So God had to arrange to send a baby–His only begotten Son to do the job. The first Adam lost everything and the Second Adam redeemed him. “The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life.” That great truth was fleshed out when Jesus declared to His disciples just before He was crucified for our sins–“I am the way, the truth, and the life…” And then Jesus confirmed in that verse what I have plainly stated in this devotion. There was not another way. He was it! “no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” John 14:6. Jesus is the only Way to Heaven. He is the only Person the Father will consider in the salvation and redemption plan. The world of religion and the secular wickedness of man looks for another way. But they look in vain. Jesus is the Way. He is the Truth. He is the Life. If you reject Him you will one day face God in your sins. There will be no discussion of the matter, no reasoning of your situation, no excuses will satisfy His holiness. Some might think today that God is unreasonable in His narrow plan. Yes, He is. Wide is the gate that opens to the wrong road and destruction. Many are on that road today. Strait is the gate and narrow the way that leads to eternal life. Few will ever find it. That is why Jesus commissioned His disciples to go into all the world and preach the Gospel. Have you heard that Gospel and believed it? “For whosoever shall call upon the Name of the Lord shall be saved.”

“For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” Romans 6:23

We Shall All Meet God One Day

Dr. Joe Henry Hankins said, “We shall all meet God one day. If you die in your sins you will have to meet God in your sins.” What an awful meeting day that will be. “It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.” Hebrews 10:31 “You may meet God without a moments notice. If you are not saved nothing else matters.”
