THINK

R A Torrey

“A business friend once asked me in a hurried call to tell him “in a word” how to study his Bible. I replied, “Think.” The psalmist pronounced that the man who “meditates day and night” “in the law of the LORD” is “blessed.” (See Psalms 1:1-2). The Lord commanded Joshua to “meditate in it day and night” and assured him that as a result of this meditation, “you will make your way prosperous, and you will have good success.” (Joshua 1:8) In this way alone can one study the Bible to the greatest profit.

“One pound of beef well-chewed, digested, and assimilated will give more strength than tons of beef merely glanced at; and one verse of Scripture chewed, digested, and assimilated will give more strength than whole chapters simply skimmed. Weigh every word you read in the Bible. Look at it. Turn it over and over. The most familiar passages take on new meaning in this way. Spend fifteen minutes on each word in Psalm 23:1 or Philippians 4:19, and see if it is not so.” By R. A. Torrey -1856-1928
Dr. Torrey is respected as one of the greatest evangelist of modern times. His biographer called him “The Apostle of Certainty.” Why? He knew beyond a shadow of doubt he was saved and going to Heaven when he died.

An ordained Baptist minister. Worked for 10 years with a Christian publishing ministry where I was the circulation manager for a growing publication, The Sword of the Lord. I also did most of direct mail fundraising and promotion. I have pastored churches in Tennessee, Georgia, Alabama & Arkansas. I served for some four years as Vice President of The Spoken Word of God ministry, Orlando, FL. This ministry was active in church planting in India and broadcasting the Scriptures via Trans World Radio and other radio outlets. My associate in this ministry later invited me to join him and his dad in starting a business working with churches providing multimedia equipment. I have done this work for the last 16 years. This blog, hopefully, will scratch an itch I have for communicating the Word of God to a broader audience via the Internet. I would be honored to hear from you via email.
